1 de enero de 2021 / January 1st, 2021Fui con unas amistades a visitar a los flamencos -como se les conoce a los flamingos aquí en Yucatán- y a los pelícanos blancos que llegan a las costas al norte de Yucatán durante el invierno.
I went with some friends to visit the flamencos -as flamingos are known in Yucatán- and the white pelicans that reach the northern Yucatán coast during Winter.
Hasta atrás en la foto se alcanzan a ver algunos flamencos y algunos pelicanos blancos muy juntitos para protegerse. Hay incluso lagartos en esta región, por lo que deben cuidarse las aves de los depredadores... ¡incluidos los seres humanos!
Way behind in the photo you can see some flamingoes and further behind some white pelicans huddled together as protection. There are also lagartos in this area, so the birds must protect themselves from predators...including human beings!
Debido a las lluvias copiosas este año, las aguas han subido mucho, disminuyendo las áreas de tierra firme, aumentando el área lodosa color blancusco habitada por manglares y una diversidad de aves.
Due to the abundant rains this year, the water level has risen considerably, diminishing the area of dry, firm land and increasing wet whitish clay areas: mangrove territory shared with a variety of birds.
Encontramos en el agua y el lodo plumas muy variadas, la más grande probablemente sea de un ala de pelícano. La elegí para hacer una pluma para escribir a la antigüita; ¡espero con eso infundir algo de inspiración creativa a este nuevo ciclo del 2021!
In the water and clay we found a variety of feathers, the largest is probably a pelican wing feather. I chose it to make a writing pen; I hope this will infuse some creative inspiration during this upcoming 2021cycle!

BUGAMBILIAS Y MAGNOLIAS
que camines serena
por las piedras, querida vida,
con mirada interior
puesta en las bugambilias
en el intenso azul
que las cobija
en las magnolias y
los nardos que
se abren y regalan su todo
sin esperar nada a cambio.
